The mecoco initiative aims at enhacing the development of quantitative analyses in ecology, evolution and related research fields.

It achieves this by facilitating collaborative projects where:

• a single research question and data set is analysed by independent research teams;
• the results from the independent analyses are reported in a structured way and within a pre-set time frame;
• the participating researchers discuss and analyse the differences that arise in the process.

The ultimate aims for each mecoco project are to learn from each other, establish best practices and quantify uncertainties for the question and data under consideration.

You can participate in mecoco in various ways:

• keep an eye on the ‘calls for participation’ and join a comparison project that suits you;
• organise a model comparison project yourself;
• propose a question and/or data set where you would like to see a comparison project.

There is currently one project in progress and we are looking for colleagues who are interested in organising a project in the domains of island biogeography, species distribution modeling and agent based modeling. If you want to get in touch about these, send an email to mecoco.project@gmail.com
